Long Lost “Snap Magikarp” Pokemon Card Auctioned For $136K

The past few years have seen a surging interest in collecting Pokemon trading cards, with many rare finds going for hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction or on ebay.

One of the more recent auctions of interest is for an extremely rare card called “Snap Magikarp”, which was thought to be long lost and impossible to find. This card was created as part of a contest Corocoro Magazine held back in 1999, which asked players to send in their best pictures from the original Pokemon Snap for a chance have them turned into trading cards. The five winners of the contest were each given 20 copies of their own unique card, with this rarity is why the cards eventually became highly sought after by collectors.

Out of the five different cards printed for the competition, the rarest is the “Snap Magikarp” card, which up until today had not been seen by the public, with many believing it to be lost to time. The only known copy of this card was sold at a Japanese auction for 5 million yen (approximately $136K), and has been documented on video by Pokemon card collector and Youtuber Scott Pratte below:
