Los Angeles Political Candidate Finds A Shiny Pidgey During their Livestream
“An unexpected constituent appeared!”
Colin Hernandez went live on Twitch this past Wednesday as part of their campaign to represent California’s 51st Assembly District in the upcoming midterm election this June 2, 2026. This fundraising stream featured him playing a Nuzlocke of the newly ported Pokemon FireRed to the Nintendo Switch consoles just last week. This marked his first time playing through the Kanto region since playing Pokemon Red and Blue when they originally released.
The stream’s focus was to answer questions regarding his campaign which centers on creating a California that addresses and advocates for the material needs of all Californians by advocating for a state that provides healthcare, housing, childcare, and more to California residents.

During the stream while on his way to the Pewter City gym he encountered a rare find for any trainer: a shiny Pokemon in the form of a Pidgey.
This Pidgey surprised both Colin and the chat as he tackled how to best capture it. The odds for finding a shiny Pokemon are 1 in 8,192 making this an incredibly rare encounter to be captured while live so early in his play-through of the game which was just under 2 hours in.
Unfortunately the Pidgey ended up being knocked out by a critical hit from his Mankey’s Scratch and he was unable to catch the rare bird.
The team prevailed however up against Brock where the stream ended shortly afterwards with Mankey defeating the gym leader singlehandedly.
Colin’s stream VOD is not available at this time but he is set to stream once more this Thursday at 6:00pm Pacific time as he continues his Pokemon journey for the first time through the remakes of Pokemon Red and Blue.
