Alongside Booster Course Wave 3, Nintendo has released a free update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch.
The update adds a new Custom Item feature to the game, which allows players to choose which items can and cannot spawn from question mark blocks during races. This feature can only be used in offline VS races and certain online modes. Players can also use this feature to assign specific items to each team in Team Races or Battle modes.
Aside from the obvious use of making item free competitions or removing the hated Blue Shell from play, this feature opens up opportunities for some more wacky ideas, as seen in the demonstration videos below:
