Microsoft Currently Has No “Specific Announcements” For Xbox Live On Switch

It seems the rumors about Xbox on Switch may have been just that.

Recently, Microsoft officially launched its new mobile software development kit (SDK) called Microsoft Game Stack. This kit would allow developers to implement a number of Microsoft gaming tools and services on Android & IOS, including Xbox Live. With regards to the Switch however, Microsoft’s gaming cloud chief Kareem Choudhry stated they had no “specific announcements”.

“Our goal is to really unite the 2 billion gamers of the world and we’re big fans of our Xbox Live community, but we don’t have any specific announcements as it relates to Switch today. If you’ve watched us for the past few years, we’ve taken a very inclusive approach. Phil [Spencer] has been very proactive on issues like crossplay, cross-progression, and uniting gamer networks, and we’re willing to partner with the industry as much as we possibly can.”

This statement appears to contradict previous information about the SDK released by Microsoft, where the Switch was listed among the potential compatible devices. This could either mean that the original plans fell through, or that they are still in talks about the arrangement. While nothing is set in stone, Choudhry’s statements seem to suggest that Xbox apps are unlikely to come to the Switch anytime soon. We will bring more information as it develops.

What do you think? Is there still a chance of Xbox apps and features coming to Switch? Let us know in the comments below.
