Mortal Kombat Movie Receives Its First Images And Story Details
Warner Bros. has released the first images from the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie, along with some additional story details.
The images were shared via Twitter, and give us our first look at Sub-Zero, Jax, and more. The tweets also reconfirm that the movie will release on April 16th in theaters as well as via HBO Max.

In addition, Entertainment Weekly published an interview with Director Simon McQuoid, who shed some light on the movie’s plot and characters. A summary of a few of the key details can be found below:
- Film opens with scenes depicting the conflict between the clans of Hanzo (Scorpion) and Bi-Han (Sub-Zero), played by Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim respectively.
- It then shifts to present day, and follows a new character Cole Young, a washed up MMA fighter who gets pulled into the Mortal Kombat Tournament.
- Other characters confirmed to make appearances include Shang Tsung (Chin Han), ax (Mehcad Brooks), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang), and Kano (Josh Lawson).
- The movie will include “gore, blood, and fatalities” that are “brutal” and “don’t hold back”. There will also be many Easter eggs, as well as signature moves and fatalities pulled from the games.
