My Nintendo Gold Points Being Discontinued March 2025
Nintendo has announced they are discontinuing the current My Nintendo Gold Points system.
For those who may not be aware, My Nintendo Gold Points are awarded to Nintendo Account holders whenever they purchase Digital Content at a rate of 5% of the total price of the product. Accumulated Gold Points could then be used to purchase digital games, DLC, and other perks.
As detailed on an official news post, My Nintendo Gold Points will be discontinued after 25th March 2025, after which players will no longer be able to earn any new Gold Points from digital purchases, with some small exceptions for games releasing around the discontinuation period. All earned Gold Points will still be redeemable within 12 months of purchases as per normal.
- Gold Points will no longer be earned for digital purchases on Nintendo eShop after 9:30 p.m. PDT on 3/24/2025.
- Gold Points will no longer be earned on physical games that release after 3/24/2025. For physical games that released on or before 3/24/2025, Gold Points may still be earned by registering eligible titles within one year from the original release date of the game.
- All earned Gold Points will continue to be valid and redeemable for 12 months after they are issued**.
At the time of this writing, Nintendo has not explained why they are discontinuing the Gold Points system. It is possible that it could have something to do with the imminent arrival of the Switch 2, which could perhaps be planned to use a different points reward system that replaces the original. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
