Niantic has come out to clarify a statement that sort of got warped out of context as the message was passed on. Niantic has previously released a statement saying that iOS devices that do not support iOS 11 will not be able to launch Pokemon Go. However, as the message gets passed on, the perception became that Pokemon Go will require iOS 11 to run.
Niantic has come out to clarify their statement. In a twitter reply, Niantic confirmed that iOS 11 is not a requirement for the game to run and that devices that run on Apple’s older operating system (iOS 9 and above) will still be able to play the game, provided that the devices have the ability to upgrade to iOS 11.
So if you have an iPhone 6 running on iOS 9, you will still be able to play Pokemon Go without needing to update to Apple’s latest iOS version.
While this doesn’t sound any relief bells for those owning the following devices (below), players who do not own any of the below devices do need not take any actions such as updating their device’s operating system.
