Nintendo has purchased a new plot of land to construct a second corporate headquarters in Kyoto.
As detailed in the official announcement, the new plot of land sits adjacent to their first corporate head quarters, and was formerly the site of the “Foundation Support Factory” and “Material And Disaster Prevention Center” prior to being taken over by Kyoto City. Nintendo purchased the land from the city for ¥5 billion (~$40 million USD).
The new plot of land is planned to be the site of “Corporate Headquarters Development Center, Building No. 2”, which is estimated to complete its construction by December 2027. Nintendo states that acquiring this land will have an “important role in reinforcing its R&D”, which seems like a catch all term which could encompass anything from game development to console development and so forth.
