Nintendo Drops Switch Hardware Sales Projection Due To Parts Shortage, Raises Software Sales Projection

Earlier this week, Nikkei published a report stating that Nintendo would be producing fewer Switch consoles than planned for the fiscal year ending on March 2022.

Nikkei’s report has now been confirmed by Nintendo has published their latest financial results briefing, revealing they had indeed revised their Switch hardware sales projection from  25.5 million units to 24 million units for the fiscal year ending in March 2022. Echoing Nikkei’s report, Nintendo stated that the reason for this revision was due to the ongoing global semiconductor shortage.

Nintendo’s statement on the revisions can be found below:

For Nintendo Switch hardware, we reduced our forecast by 1.50 million units to 24.00 million units. Our shipment forecast for the second half was reduced because of the change in our production plan due to the effects of the global semiconductor shortage. On the other hand, we revised the Nintendo Switch software forecast up by 10.00 million units to 200.00 million units based on the sales performance of the first half.

As seen above, on the software side, Nintendo instead decided to revise its software forecast upwards. Presumably, the company has a high amount of confidence in the titles releasing in the latter half of the fiscal year, which includes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Shin Megami Tensei V,  Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, Pokemon Legends Arceus, and more.
