Japanese financial paper Nikkei has published a report concerning Nintendo’s plans for the Switch in the upcoming fiscal year.

According to Nikkei’s report, Nintendo is expected to sell around 20 million Switch units in this fiscal year, which is a 10% drop from the last fiscal year’s plan of 30 million units. As one might expect, this reduction is mainly due to supply chain issues, specifically the semi-conductor shortage and disruptions to global logistics chains. Some of the primary factors leading to these issues are the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, as well as China’s most recent outbreak of COVID-19.

In addition, Nikkei also states that demand for the Switch remains high, and that Nintendo would prefer to increase production to meet this demand. To compensate for the reduced console sales, Nintendo will instead be focusing on pushing software sales, presumably including the upcoming Splatoon 3, as well as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
