Nintendo has issued an important warning about potential imposters sending emails to their customers.
The notice was posted in Japanese, stating that Nintendo has confirmed cases of bad actors sending out emails from spoofed Nintendo addresses (such as no-reply@accounts.nintendo.com). These fake emails could contain links to dangerous third-party websites, which are typically designed to steal sensitive information from unfortunate victims.
Nintendo recommends players who think they have received such an email to delete them immediately, as well as close any pages they may have opened through the links. In the case where a player as already given away their Nintendo account details, they recommend changing the password or setting up two-factor authentication.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to stop these malicious actors from pretending to be Nintendo. Instead, players are advised to report any suspicious emails to their local authorities who deal with such cases.
