Nintendo Was Metacritic’s Second Top Publisher In 2017

Review aggregator site Metacritic has pushed out its annual publisher rankings, calculated based on the cumulative Metascores from all the games every publisher have released in a year.

Nintendo rose from third place in 2016 to become Metacritic’s second best performing publisher in 2017. The company was beaten by Bethesda, which released Skyrim and DOOM on Nintendo Switch last year.

Nintendo was the only major publisher to achieve a 90 and above Metascore for 3 different titles in 2017. The Metascore average for Nintendo’s Switch and 3DS titles were 80.0 and 75.5 respectively.

The best performing Nintendo title on Metacritic last year was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which received an incredible Metascore of 97. When it comes to Best New IP, Snipperclips took home 80, and the worst overall release was Flip Wars at 53.
