Nintendo has officially confirmed backwards compatibility for the Switch’s successor.
This news comes via the company’s latest financial results briefing, where President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that Switch software will be playable on its successor. He also confirmed that the current Switch Online service will also be used on the successor, with further details to be shared at a later date.
This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.
Backwards compatibility has been a long rumored feature of the Switch successor, which is also claimed to be able to enhance performance of these games using its superior hardware. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
