Nintendo & The Pokemon Company have filed for some new trademarks relating to their properties in Japan.
Firstly, Nintendo has filed for a new trademark related to the Dr. Mario Series. The trademark is for “ドクマリ” (“DocuMari”), a common short form for saying Doctor Mario. Purposes include “program for home video game consoles, downloadable program for home video game consoles, downloadable programs for smartphones, and more”.
Secondly, Nintendo Co., Ltd., Creatures Inc., and Game Freak Co., Ltd. have trademarked わくわく! もんぽけ島 (Wakuwaku! Monpoké Jima) in Japan. For those who may not be aware, Wakuwaku! Monpoké Jima is an animated puppet series for young children starring various Pokemon. The trademark covers a wide range of purposes including “programs for home video game consoles”. This could mean that The Pokemon Company is planning to release a spin-off title based on Monpoké, but that remains to be seen.
