Earlier this week, there were signs that the recent outbreak of the nCoV-2019 coronavirus outbreak was having an effect on Switch manufacturing – with hardware shortages cropping up in Japan. Well, it looks like Nintendo has finally decided to comment on the situation.
Nintendo released an official statement today confirming that the disease would indeed affect the production of Switch hardware and accessories within China. As such, a number of products such as the Joy-Con and Ring Fit Adventure will likely not see restocks for awhile in Japan – which Nintendo apologized in advance for.
You can read the full statement below (translation courtesy of VentureBeat):
“Thank you very much for your patronage of our products.
Due to the new coronavirus infection that is currently occurring, it is expected that production and shipment delays will be inevitable for peripheral devices such as the Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con manufactured in China for the Japanese domestic market. Similarly, shipments of the currently out-of-stock “Ring Fit Adventure” are expected to be delayed.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
We will work hard to deliver the product as soon as possible, while keeping an eye on the effects of the new coronavirus infection, and we look forward to your understanding.”
We’ll just have to wait and see if the situation improves over time. Stay tuned for more updates in the future.
