Nintendo Removes Mention Of One-Time Save Data Backup From Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct

Earlier this week, Nintendo broadcast an official Direct for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Many key details such as amiibo support and terrain editing were revealed during the presentation – but now it looks like one of them has been quietly swept under the rug by the company…

As some readers may recall, we reported that New Horizons would only allow Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to restore their save games one time if they lost/broke their consoles. This was part of some fine print during the Direct, which you can spot below:

Of course, this raised some concerns among fans who felt the restriction might be too harsh. So much concern, in fact, that it seems Nintendo might be changing their stance on how save backups will work for the game in the future.

Just a few hours ago, Nintendo de-listed the original Direct and re-uploaded a new version of it – which no longer mentions the one-time save backup. In its place, a new piece of fine print states that ‘More details on save data recovery functionality will be shared at a future date’ (we’ve marked it in red).

It’s possible that Nintendo might have simply removed the fine print to avoid further grief from Animal Crossing fans – although there is a glimmer of hope that the company might just change its mind and make save backups easier overall.

We’ll just have to wait and see what they announce and confirm in the future. Stay tuned!
