Nintendo Says There Are No Plans To Bring Virtual Console To Switch
Last night, Nintendo revealed Nintendo Switch Online, the company’s upcoming subscription service, will let players enjoy 20 NES games with enhanced multiplayer features.
When Kotaku asked whether Virtual Console will make a return to Nintendo Switch, a Nintendo spokesperson said there are no plans to do so. Classic games could be made available in other ways, such as porting them over (similar to what NEOGEO does), NES – Nintendo Switch Online, or as a packaged collection (similar to Mega Man Legacy Collection).
In addition, the company had “nothing to announce” on whether games from SNES and other classic Nintendo platforms would appear on Nintendo Switch Online.
There are currently no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner as has been done on other Nintendo systems.
There are a variety of ways in which classic games from Nintendo and other publishers are made available on Nintendo Switch, such as through Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo eShop or as packaged collections. Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online will provide a fun new way to experience classic NES games that will be different from the Virtual Console service, thanks to enhancements such as added online play, voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online app and the various play modes of Nintendo Switch.
