Nintendo Says They Underestimated Demand For The Legend Of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Console
Earlier this year, Nintendo officially revealed The Legend Of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console, the first special edition variant of the system.
While fans weren’t surprised to see pre-orders for the console quickly sell out, it seems that Nintendo themselves might have somehow been caught off guard by the demand. In an interview with Brazilian YouTube channel Coelho no Japão, Nintendo Latin America vice president Bill van Zyll claimed that the company “underestimated” how popular it would be, and that they would be working on restocking both the new console as well as The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake that it is releasing alongside.
“Well, if we expected it, we wouldn’t be in that situation, right? At least not to this extent,”
“I will tell you that it’s a global phenomenon. We have this issue absolutely everywhere. We apologize for that. That certainly is not the intent. We underestimated how well it would be received – and there’s certainly some markets that stand out.”
“It’s a global phenomenon where they’re running out of product. The pre-sales are hitting their max, and certainly that’s what happened to us in Brazil.”
“We are working on replenishments of the special hardware and the software, but it’ll take a little bit of time. Please be patient.”
The fact that Nintendo did not anticipate this level of demand very first special edition variant of the already extremely popular Switch 2 is a shock in and of itself, although it is reassuring that they are working to address it now. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
