For the past few months, rumors have been swirling about the imminent arrival of the Switch’s successor, which many believe will launch as early as next year.

In a recent interview with Nikkei however, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that the company will still be focusing on the Switch this fiscal year, which ends on March 2024. Furthermore, Furukawa affirmed that they will continue to support the hybrid console throughout the following fiscal year, which will take things all the way up to March 2025.

Although not an outright disconfirmation, Furukawa’s words do put a bit of a damper on hopes that the Switch’s successor will be launched next year. That said, it’s also possible that the latter half of 2024 will mark a transitional phase between the Switch and it’s successor, where games will still be released on the predecessor console until Nintendo is ready to go all in in 2025.
