Nintendo Sues Switch Piracy Website For Millions Of Dollars

Nintendo of America has announced a multi-million dollar lawsuit against ROMUniverse, a website that hosts and distributes illegal ROMs of Nintendo games.

Nintendo is suing ROMUniverse for USD150,000 per copyright infringement and USD2 million for each trademark infringement. Nintendo says ROMUniverse has been damaging to their business as illegal Nintendo Switch ROMs have been downloaded over 250,000 times on their website while Nintendo 3DS ROMs were downloaded over 50,000 times.

ROMUniverse even offers a USD30 membership tier that grants members access to higher download speeds, proving that it is a business making money off piracy at Nintendo’s expense.
