Nintendo recently published its FY3/2021 Q1 earnings release, which reveals that the Switch family of consoles has crossed another massive sales milestone.
According to the report, the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite have achieved a combined total hardware sales of 61.44 million units worldwide as of June 30 2020. In comparison to its predecessors, this means that the Switch is well on its way to exceeding the lifetime sales of the NES, which sold around 61.9 million units in its lifetime.
You can check out a comparison table below:
Console Hardware Sales (Million) Software Sales (Million) Wii 101.63 921.85 NES 61.91 500.01 Nintendo Switch 61.44 406.67 SNES 49.10 379.06 Nintendo 64 32.93 224.97 GameCube 21.74 208.57 Wii U 13.56 103.21
In addition, as seen in the table above, the Switch has also crossed the 400 million software sales mark as of June 30 2020, but still has a considerable way to go before reaching the heights of the NES or even Wii on that front.
As the Switch is currently only in its fourth year, we can probably expect it to zip past its eldest sibling in terms of hardware and software sales in the months to follow. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
