Nintendo has put out a version 20.1.0 firmware update for Nintendo Switch on May 28, 2025 (Japan time).

The official patch notes lists the following changes:

1. The design for Nintendo Switch Parental Controls user interface elements has changed to align with the smartphone app’s design change
2. The jingle for the Nintendo Switch Online applet on the HOME Menu has been changed
3. A few other changes and stability updates were made

Outside of the patch notes, users have spotted the following changes:

1. The names for HOME Menu themes have been changed, from “Basic White” and “Basic Black” to “Basic Light” and “Basic Dark” respectively
2. The Nintendo Switch Online applet now supports the Basic Dark theme
3. The user interface  in the Nintendo Switch Online applet has been changed slightly

Users are recommended to update to the new firmware version, especially if they are planning to transfer their data to Nintendo Switch 2 next week. The latest firmware update is required for the transfer.
