Nintendo Today! App Quietly Updated To Stop Users From Recording Videos
It seems that the Nintendo Today! app for smartphone devices has been quietly updated with a new measure to prevent users from recording videos and taking screenshots of content in the app.
According to Redditor Cube_play_8, the app was recently updated to prevent users from capturing videos and screenshots. They tested this on two smartphones – a new Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and an old Poco F5 pro.
While it’s possible to record videos on the Poco F5 pro, captured footage on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra was completely blacked out. This suggests that the measure is only working on newer devices, and may not work on older smartphone models.
This measure is a huge blow to preserving videos and images shared on the app. While Nintendo hasn’t disclosed the reason behind its implementation, they might have a vested interest in keeping the content exclusive to the app to encourage its use, which is why do not wish to see it spread on social media and the internet.
Here’s a video showing the measure in action:
The Nintendo Today app is quietly adding a DRM or similar measure that prevents the capture/recording of content. (Making it impossible to archive promotional material for the Switch 2 in the future)
