Nintendo Wins $7 Million Lawsuit Against Counterfeit Amiibo Sellers
Nintendo has scored yet another victory in its battle against piracy, this time in the physical realm.
The win is against two Amazon sellers that were peddling counterfeit amiibo, the result of a lawsuit from Nintendo and Amazon themselves filed back in October 2023. The sellers failed to respond to the lawsuit, leading the Seattle court to award a default judgment in Nintendo’s favor, with the sellers required to pay over $7 million in damages and cease selling counterfeit amiibo and any other products that infringe on Nintendo’s IP.
This story pops up right after Nintendo definitively won its case against a French filehosting website for not taking down pirated software. If nothing else, it shows once again that Nintendo’s lawyers are not to be messed with, for not just their games, but their merch as well.
