PlayStation Chairman Shawn Layden Is Stepping Down
It looks like the gaming world will see the departure of another one of its leaders.
Earlier today, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden would be stepping down as the leader of the company’s PlayStation division, and departing Sony altogether. For now, SIE has not announced a replacement.
It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE. His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!

Layden’s departure comes just several months after Reggie Fils-Aimé likewise stepped down as Nintendo of America’s president. Previously, the two leaders shared a stage with Microsoft’s Phil Spencer during The Game Awards 2018. While Layden worked for Nintendo’s business rival Sony, he has gone on record saying that people should never underestimate Nintendo – applauding the company for taking a risk with the Switch.
All in all, it will definitely be odd not to see some familiar faces at future gaming shows. As with Reggie, we wish Shawn Layden the best in his future ventures.
