Pokemon GO Issues Strikes And Bans To Players Using Certain Xiaomi Phones
Like most online multiplayer games, Pokemon GO often issues strikes and bans to players that it detects to have violated the terms of service or to be cheating with hacking tools. However, it seems that Niantic’s attempt to lay down the law, some innocent legitimate players may have been caught in the crossfire.
Over the past few days several Pokemon GO players have reported that their accounts have been hit with strikes or bans without having done anything to warrant such action. After collecting data on the complaints, Pokemon GO subreddit TheSilphRoad found that the bans seem to be hitting players who use specific models of Xiaomi phones, specifically the Series 5.
Below you can find an example of the error message these players have been receiving:
At present, users on TheSilphRoad have been continuing to gather reports and attempting to reach out to Niantic for an explanation. However as of this writing, the developer has not issued any official statement about the issue. Hopefully Niantic will come out an address the problem soon, and return access to the players who were unfairly banned.
