As most readers will know by now, the ongoing coronavirus outbreak that began earlier this year prompted massive lockdowns across the world – which spurred Niantic to modify Pokemon GO spawn rates to encourage people to stay safe at home. Well, it looks like this cautious initiative certainly worked out for the game!
According to data by GoldenCasinoNews, player spending in the game reached a high of $23 million in the week of March 9 – 16 alone – nearly a 70% increase over the previous week. Of course, this coincided around the time when lockdowns were starting to take effect across many nations.
This lines up somewhat with SuperData’s own report – which estimated that the game made a whopping $111 million USD during March 2020 overall. No matter how you spin it – Niantic definitely managed to capture players’ attentions during a tough time!
