Earlier this week, the Pokemon Company announced that Pokemon Legends Z-A sold over 5.8 million copies worldwide on launch, a respectable figure that makes it the 5th biggest launch for the franchise overall.
Mat Piscatella, a video game analyst at Circana, has shared that the game also set a new sales record in the US. According to Circana’s data, Pokemon Legends Z-A now has the biggest launch figures for a physical videogame in the US, both in terms of number of copies and dollar sales. To put that into perspective, the previous record holder was The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, which set the record back in 2023. To top it off, this figure does not include sales from the Pokemon Legends Z-A Switch 2 bundle, so the actual figure might be even higher.
This finding is likely to cement Pokemon Legends Z-A as a success for Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, as while the game did well in their home country of Japan, reception in the EU turned out a bit more muted. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
