Pokemon Scarlet/Violet Achieves The Biggest Videogame Launch Of All Time In Japan
In addition to setting a new sales record for Nintendo games worldwide, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet has smashed another record in its home country of Japan.
According to Japanese game sales database Game Data Library, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet has achieved the biggest launch for any videogame ever in Japan at a massive 4 million units. This figure is about 600k more than the previous title holder Splatoon 3, which only held onto it for a mere 3 months.
Game Data Library also reveals that these three days were enough for Scarlet/Violet to outsell the entire lifetime sales for Pokemon Legends Arceus (3.58 million), and puts them on track to dethrone Splatoon 3 as Japan’s best-selling game of 2022.
3 days were enough to surpass the lifetime sales of Pokémon Legends: Arceus (3.58m).
Its Japan's second best selling game of 2022 behind Splatoon 3 (5.01m), Given the sales it should become the best seller.

Its interesting to note that the 4 million unit figure in Japan is about 2 fifths of Pokemon Scarlet And Violet‘s reported worldwide sales figure of 10 million, which suggests that the franchise continues to be extremely popular in its home country despite widespread criticism of the games as of late. We will be sure to report back with more updates on the games’ performance as they come.
