Shortly after the release of Pokemon Sword And Shield worldwide, players who owned Roku brand televisions and other Roku streaming devices began noticing something very strange happening while enjoying their new game.
Specifically, many of them found that if they were playing Pokemon Sword And Shield online, Roku devices that were connected to the same network would crash or get caught in a reset loop. However, the errors would resolve themselves once they turned off the game or disconnected from the network.
While the exact cause of the errors is still unclear, one user on Reddit has speculated that it might be caused by Pokemon Sword And Shield‘s Y-Comm feature. Apparently, the Roku devices may mistake the data being sent out by Pokemon as Roku data packets, which causes the Roku devices to crash as they cannot read it.
Luckily, it seems Roku has noticed the issue and is currently rolling out a patch to fix it. You can check out their statement on the problem below, as shared by CNET.
“We are aware of an issue when using Nintendo Switch and the latest Pokémon game impacting a limited number of Roku devices. We are rolling out a software update to resolve it and impacted users can check for the update by going into Settings > System > Software Update.”
Should any players be experiencing problems with their Roku devices while playing Pokemon Sword or Shield, they may want to play in offline mode for the time being, or follow the instructions above to update the affected Roku device.
