Pokemon TCG Pocket Planning Major Update To Improve Player Retention
During their most recent quarterly briefing, DeNA revealed that a major update is in the works for Pokemon TCG Pocket.
The presentation deck for the briefing has surfaced online, and includes a slide talking about the mobile app. The slide mentions that player retention for the game has been dropping compared to launch, and that DeNA is planning to release a major update to the game in the hopes of addressing this.
While the exact contents of this update are not mentioned, the slide implies that a major focus of the update will be “enhancement of collection experience”. It is likely that this is referring to the difficulty players have in completing their card collections, a daunting task given the near constant stream of new booster packs and the lack of surefire ways to acquire missing cards. Furthermore, the long awaited trade feature has done little to alleviate this issue, even after changes were made to make it more accessible to players.
At the time of this writing, DeNA has yet to publicly communicate that this update is in the works. Stay tuned for more details as they come.
