After the recent Super Mario Maker 2 Direct last week, it looks like one of Nintendo’s long-time underdogs is finally getting more internet love again.
Namely, during a segment about the game’s story mode, the character Undodog appears as a key character that hands out quests to Mario as well. Unlike Mario’s usual cast members, his bizarre flattened appearance caught many viewers off-guard.
For the uninitiated, Undodog made his original appearance in Mario Paint for the SNES – where pressing on him reverses the player’s previous action. After that, however, the strange canine with an white border around his neck only received small cameos in the WarioWare series. Eventually, Undodog also made a return in Super Mario Maker for the Wii U and 3DS – but this is the first time he’s actually interacting with Mario as his own character!
Of course, Nintendo fans are now falling in love with the canine after his reappearance. From fan-art, memes, and amiibo requests – you can check out all of the madness unraveling below.
