Random: Newly Announced Game “Pickmon” Copies Pokemon, Zelda, And Palworld
Two years ago, developer PocketPair released Palworld, the infamous open world creature-collecting game that borrowed a great deal of concepts and designs from Pokemon and numerous other major videogame titles. Its massive success led to a great deal of positive and negative attention, including a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokemon Company that is still ongoing.
Amidst the controversy, other game developers have been trying to throw their hat into the ring and make their own successful Palworld or Pokemon rip-off. One such game is the recently revealed Pickmon, which is probably the most blatant one yet.
As seen in the trailer below, this game not only copies Pals from Palworld, but tweaks their designs to make them look even more like the Pokemon that they were “inspired” from. The design for the main male protagonist is also a copy of Link from The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, which brings to mind PocketPair’s other game Craftopia, which was accused of being a Breath Of The Wild ripoff when it launched in early access.
Amusingly, the game’s developer on Steam is also listed as “PocketGame”, obviously a riff of Palworld developer “PocketPair”, which makes one wonder if this is an elaborate joke or scam at Palworld‘s expense.
At the end of the trailer, the developer claims to be working on bringing Pickmon to Switch and Playstation, although one wonders if Nintendo or PocketPair would even allow that to happen. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
