Pokemon Scarlet And Violet players have discovered a potentially game-breaking bug in the game’s multiplayer battle mode.
According to Pokemon dataminer @Sibuna_Switch, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet‘s Battle Stadium is currently bugged such that it uses the same RNG seed for every battle. In simple terms, what this means is that players aware of this bug can easily determine whether or not their moves will hit or miss on a given turn, and set up the flow of battle in their favor.
The most simple application of this is to ensure that their Pokemon’s One-Hit Knockout (OHKO) moves always hit, as seen in the demonstration below:
Given how severely this bug can interfere with matches, it could explain why no Ranked Battle competitions for the games have been announced by The Pokemon Company, even though this is a significant draw of playing the new games.
At the time of this writing, the existence of this issue has yet to be acknowledged by the developers, but is likely another entry in the long list of bugs they will need to fix for the game to be fully functional. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
