Last year, The Pokemon Company released the Indigo Disk DLC for Pokemon Scarlet And Violet, which includes a new feature called the Item Printer that allows players to obtain randomly generated rare items by trading TM Materials gathered from wild Pokemon.
Now, players have discovered how to manipulate the Item Printer’s RNG to get the best results possible, As explained by Pokemon dataminer @Sibuna_Switch, the item printer’s results are determined based on the Switch’s system clock. By changing the system clock to a specific time, players can control exactly what the Item Printer spits out after being used. In the example tested by Sibuna_Switch, setting the system clock to 2016, 2:11:13 AM allowed them to obtain 10 rare Poke Balls every time.
Japanese players familiar with the exploit have also been posting their results on Twitter, farming rare Poke Balls along with other valuable items such as Ability Patches:
Given that this method of determining results is integral to how the Item Printer functions, it is not certain whether Game Freak will take action to patch away the exploit. Stay tuned for more details as they come.
