Rumor: 2K Acquired License To Develop The Next FIFA Game
Back in 2022, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) ended its longtime videogame partnership with Electronic Arts, forcing the gaming publisher’s longtime football game series to rebrand and leaving the original FIFA name up for grabs.
After over 2 years of silence, it seems that the FIFA brand may be returning to videogames with a new developer. According to unverified claims from retailer @mohplay_inc, the license for the next FIFA game has been given to none other than 2K Games.
2K is well-known for developing a wide range of sports titles, including official games for the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL) and Major League Baseball (MLB). mohplay goes on to claim that 2K will release its first FIFA game this year, titled FIFA 2K25.

If the rumors are true, 2K’s significant sports title pedigree is likely the reason why FIFA chose 2K as the new developer for their videogame series. That said, whether or not this is good or bad news for the franchise remains to be seen, as 2K’s output often receives mixed reception from gamers and sports fans. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
