Rumor: Cloud Saves Will Be Enabled By Default For All Existing Nintendo Switch Games
Following a report on how developers will have the ability to turn on or off cloud saves for Nintendo Switch, a source close to Nintendo Life revealed how cloud saves will be handled for existing games.
According to the source, all existing games will default to enabled. If they want an existing game not to support cloud saves, they’ll have to ask Nintendo to turn it off. The source also added that Nintendo requires a good reason when a developer wants to disable cloud save.
Here are the source’s full comments:
“All existing games will default to “enabled”. I specifically asked Nintendo about that and had that response. If a dev/pub wants an existing game to not support it, they have to ask.
When submitting a game, you are encouraged to enable cloud save. You have to have a good reason to not support it.
Reasons to not support it are generally based around preventing a user abusing it to cheat in your game. I can’t think of anything beyond Animal Crossing being too concerned about players rewinding their saves, but some games that give a random weapon drop, for example, might want to also prevent rewinding.”
Cloud saves, also known as cloud backup save data, launches as part of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription in the second half of September.
