Following the success of the his first theatrical outing, fans have been eagerly awaiting the premier of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which is currently scheduled to premier in April 2022.

Since then, some new information have surfaced online via a copyright for the movie filed with the United States Copyright Office. Specifically, the copyright contains what appears to be the synopsis of the upcoming film, revealing several critical plot details. If you do not mind being potentially spoiled for the movie, read on past the warning below:

“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. Being directed by Jeff Fowler, and starring Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz.”

Notably, this plot synopsis not only confirms that Knuckles will indeed be a major character in the film, but it also suggests that the story will introduce the Chaos Emeralds into the film’s continuity. No doubt we will eventually hear more about it closer to the film’s release, and we will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
