Rumor: The Switch Pro Was Real But Then Cancelled, Digital Foundry Claims

As previously reported, the past few years have seen numerous rumors of a “Switch Pro” revision that would have seen the Nintendo Switch getting a mid-generation hardware upgrade. So far, none of these rumors have really materialized into an official announcement – and now we may have a better picture about Nintendo’s silence on the matter.

According to the reputable folks at Digital Foundry, Nintendo were apparently working on an actual “Switch Pro” at one point – but these plans were eventually cancelled for some reason. This was confirmed to Digital Foundry by more than one unnamed developer.

The Digital Foundry crew then speculated that Nintendo was now probably focusing on a proper next-generation successor to the Nintendo Switch, or whatever a “Switch 2” would be named. However, Digital Foundry also cautioned folks not to expect a reveal of Nintendo’s next console anytime next year – especially since Nintendo has been “worried” about how to transition from the current runaway success of the Switch console.
