As the Nintendo World Championships come to a close, we received a special clip of the Smash Bros. creator congratulating the winners but also teasing the audience.
Today we saw the Super Mario Maker 2 Invitational, the Splatoon 2 World Championship, and the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 3v3 Championship conclude in Los Angeles.
And for each of these tournaments, the producer behind the game came out to present the championship trophy to the winners.
Except for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
For this award ceremony, we got none other than the President of Nintendo of America Doug Bowser present the trophies to the winning team. This marks his first public appearance as the President of Nintendo of America.
But he quickly pointed out that one other person wanted to congratulate the winners. And with that, a pre-recorded video of Masahiro Sakurai began to play. The video starts with Sakurai standing besides a Smash Ball.
“…I’ll be continuing my work on the next DLC Fighter and more information regarding that will be shared in the Nintendo Direct for E3 2019.”
But the notable detail about this announcement is that the Smash Ball turns into a Fake Smash Ball halfway through. He acknowledges this as well before saying good-bye to the audience.
