Sakurai Thanks Players For Helping Smash Bros. Ultimate Hit 5 Million Copies, Talks About The Video Game Industry

In the latest Famitsu column with Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai, Sakurai discussed about a few topics.

First, on the topic of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate selling 5 million copies worldwide in its launch week, Sakurai thanked players and the development team for helping the game to achieve this incredible milestone.

The director then talked about the Japanese video game industry. He says everyone in the industry is pushing themselves to the limit to make fun games, competing with other developers in the world. That’s the reason why he pushed himself so hard to make Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a very fun and complete game.

Sakurai also mentioned that children who love video games may end up creating them when they become older, and in turn enjoy video games even more as they start to understand and appreciate the work that goes into making a game. He even joked he may be enjoying games created by others “a little too much”.
