Game making software, Smile Game Builder’s exporter has recently allowed users to export their games on to the Nintendo Switch. The software which allows users to create their own games with preset assets does not require users to have any pre-requisite programming skills, making it suitable for everyone and anyone.
However, for the everyday person who thinks that this is a gateway for them to be Switch developers are going to be disappointed. In a recent interview with Famitsu, the developers of the software commented while exporting to the Switch was possible, individuals cannot simply enter the eShop market.
Famitsu: Would it be possible for individuals to release games created with SMILE GAME BUILDER on Nintendo Switch?
Kobayashi: Unfortunately at this phase, you cannot make a developer contract with Nintendo individually. If there are more and more interesting games, please kindly let our company turn them to products (laughs).
Though there are many ways to work around this, like a Super Mario maker style like Switch app for people to discover the Smile Game Builder created games, one can only hope that everyday individuals can get to easily develop their games for the Switch.
