Super Rare Games’ Club Membership Receives Negative Backlash, Company Apologizes To Upset Fans
Earlier today, publisher Super Rare Games finally launched their paid membership system – which allows subscribers to buy their exclusive physical releases 48 hours earlier than anyone else.
However, Many fans of the company have been less than enthusiastic with the subscription model.
In particular, some felt like they might miss out on popular games if they did not subscribe. Likewise, others accused Super Rare Games of playing on such fears – and called the membership a cash-grab.
This is a horrible idea so you pay money to get to ability to buy things that are in LIMITED quantities before anyone else? That’s not fair to everyone! If this is a trend that starts where you cater to people who give you more money then I’m done @SuperRareGames ?

I will NEVER buy from @SuperRareGames ever again. Charging people £30 for a membership to buy their games 48 hours earlier than anybody else and have them shipped out first! Vile. Absolute lowest of the low. pic.twitter.com/Kc7qiKtGi4

I find the membership programme an insult to those who have bought every game released from @SuperRareGames … Pay 24.99+tax to have the privilege to order early… Good job trying to keep your clientele!

Meanwhile, other fans were disappointed at how little the subscription model offered for its asking price of £25. Some remarked that the one-time discount coupon was simply too stingy.
I was sold until I saw the discount was only for ONE game. Give me 20-25% off each game and I’m here. But $35 just to get early access? No thanks…

Later on, the company’s owner George Perkins apologized to Switch collectors and fans on Twitter – citing that Super Rare Games would do its best to allay these concerns.

It’s a little unfortunate that Super Rare Games is getting so much flak, despite its attempt to offer more value to customers. Hopefully the company can escape all the bad press soon.
