Last year, Gary Bowser, a member of the Switch hacking group Team Xecutor, was released from prison after being arrested for selling hacked consoles for the group. Although he is still required to pay immense amounts of damages to Nintendo, his name has once again surfaced in connection with a controversial third party product.
The product in question is the MIG Switch, a new type of flash cart device for the hybrid console. Despite advertising itself as a homebrew and game data backup device, many have expressed concerns that it will mostly be used for pirating official games, especially since it claims to work without needing to modify the hardware.
Reports of Bowser’s supposed involvement with the project comes via a video posted by Modern Vintage Gamer. In this video, MVG claims that Bowser’s website was discovered in the DNS records for the site aftertimex.com, which is where the first videos of the MIG Switch were posted. This discovery has led many to wonder if Bowser, and by extension Team Xecutor, is involved in the creation of the MIG Switch.
However, Bowser has reportedly denied being involved with the MIG Switch, addressing the allegations in a Discord message. Bowser claimed that he was involved in a DNS poisoning attack, which is why his website appeared in the records for AfterTimeX. He also stated that he would not be engaging or commenting on matters further.
Whether Bowser is truly involved with the MIG Switch or not, the actual effectiveness of the cart as a tool for piracy remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
