Nintendo has launched another firmware update for their Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite systems.
If your console is connected to the internet, firmware update version 12.0.3 should now available to download from the systems setting menu.
Like a number of past updates, this patch mainly includes the usual general system stability improvements, according to Nintendo:
Ver. 12.0.3 (Released June 7, 2021)
General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
That said, dataminer Oatmealdome has shared some additional info about what else this patch contains, although it is mostly minor adjustments:
Although minor, it’s definitely good to keep your Switch up to date. We’ll report back when further system updates drop in the future.
[Update]: As of June 8th, the Version 12.0.3 update for Switch has been temporarily taken down for as of yet unknown reasons. We’ll report back with more details as they come.
[Update 2]: Nintendo has since clarified the reason why the update was pulled, and it is because it can cause the following issues:
- Switches that have been updated to Version 12.0.3. may be unable to connect to the internet under certain conditions.
- Attempting to use a brand new microSD card on a Version 12.0.3. Switch may trigger an error during the initial setup of the card, making it unable to work with the Switch. Players who have been using a microSD card since before Version 12.0.3. will not be affected.
Nintendo has confirmed they are working on a fix for these issues, but it is currently unknown when a new update will be issued to correct them. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
[Update 3]: As of June 9th, Nintendo has resumed the distribution of Version 12.0.3., as discussed in the following Tweet:
We have resumed distribution of system version 12.0.3 of Nintendo Switch, which was suspended. After updating to 12.0.3, if an error occurs while downloading the game software or update data and the download stops, please check the following Q & A.
If you cannot start using the microSDXC card, insert the microSDXC card while connected to the Internet and update the main unit according to the displayed screen. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
