The Last 3 Minutes Of Every GameChat Session Will Be Recorded For User Safety On Switch 2
Earlier this month, Nintendo updated their end-user license agreement, giving them the power to monitor and record GameChat sessions for safety reasons.
Now, details on how this mechanism works have been released. According to Nintendo, the last three minutes of audio and video from every GameChat session will be recorded and temporarily stored on the user’s device. In the event a user reports another user for suspicious or inappropriate behavior, the user will have the ability to send Nintendo part (or whole) of the audio or video that contains suspicious or inappropriate behavior from another user.
The audio or video will be sent together with data such as timestamp and camera use. This makes it possible for Nintendo to identify rule-breaking behavior and punish users accordingly, and depending on the situation, the data may even be shared with law enforcement.
It was also clarified that Nintendo will only have access to audio and video from GameChat sessions only if a user chooses to file a report; Nintendo cannot access audio and video of sessions that are not reported, and they can only see parts of the audio/video that the user provides.
Don’t forget that other safety measures have also been put in place to make GameChat a safe environment for all, such as mandatory identity verification.
