The Nintendo 64 Logo Was Plagiarized For A Museum Contest Entry [Update]

Last year, it seems like the Nintendo 64 logo almost became a little more than just a gaming symbol in Mongolia’s heritage industry.

According to Chinese Nintendo, the Inner Mongolia Nature Museum in China once held a contest to design a new logo. As it turned out, one of the contest entries ended up looking quite familiar.

As seen below, the artist of the contest entry in question only made slight modifications to the Nintendo 64’s unique ‘N’ cube symbol. Most gaming fans would have been able to tell where it came from immediately.

Fortunately, it seems like the logo’s designer had enough decency to admit the plagiarism and delete their work from the contest afterwards. At the very least, it proves that Nintendo’s artists had a good artistic sense back in their day.

Update: Some details about the Museum’s actual involvement in the plagiarism have been clarified properly.
