The Pokemon Company Has “No Plans” To Add Pokemon TCG Pocket To Competitive Circuit
Last year, The Pokemon Company released Pokemon TCG Pocket, an online adaptation of the popular trading card game that quickly became one of the most successful Pokemon spin-off games to date.
Despite the game’s popularity and presence of a competitive component, it seems Pokemon TCG Pocket won’t be joining the franchise’s official competitive circuit anytime soon. In an interview with VGC, The Pokemon Company director of global esports Chris Brown said there were “no plans” to add TCG Pocket to the lineup, seemingly comparing the idea to having competitive Pokemon Sleep tournaments.
“We’re always looking at different titles. Pokemon Sleep is out there too. But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things.”
The current lineup of titles includes Pokemon Scarlet And Violet, Pokemon GO, Pokemon Unite, and the Pokemon Trading Card Game. It is possible that The Pokemon Company wishes to avoid overlap with the actual Pokemon Trading Card Game competition, given that TCG Pocket is essentially a more simplified version of the former.
