After the release of the Version 5.0.0. update, there have been many reports of third party docks manufactured by companies such as Nyko permanently bricking Nintendo Switch consoles.
Nintendo of America even advised the public not to use third party accessories with Nintendo Switch, but no reason was given why it’s happening… until today.
According to Nathan K, his research has shown the USB-C connector in the Nintendo Switch Dock is not USB-PD compliant, and the USB-C protocols in the Nintendo Switch Console itself do not “play nice” with other USB-C products. This may have led to some consoles getting bricked.
In other words, although Nintendo Switch is supposed to be USB-C compliant with all other devices, it doesn’t comply with industry standards and may cause problems when used with other USB-C third party chargers and docks. Until Nintendo comes out with an official statement, it may be best to stop using third party accessories, especially chargers and docks, for the time being.
