Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore Japanese Release Confirmed To Be Based On Censored Western Wii U Version
We have some important news for Nintendo fans who might be considering Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore for Switch – a re-release of an original Wii U RPG that mixed Shin Megami Tensei elements with the Fire Emblem series.
The game’s Japanese website has confirmed that it will be based on the western Wii U version of the game, with various content changes. This was indicated by a very small piece of fine-print underneath the ‘purchase’ button.

For the uninitiated, the western Wii U version of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (TMS#FE) featured some significant instances of censorship and adjustments compared to the Japanese Wii U release. This included changes to revealing costumes, the editing of various cut-scenes, and even the complete replacement of bikinis as a central theme in one story arc – which left behind a bizarre narrative void for a lot of players.
In turn, this information on the Japanese website seems to imply that no regional version of the Switch re-release will feature the game’s original content from its Japanese Wii U build. However, how much censorship the Switch re-release will feature worldwide is still unclear as of right now.
We’ll report back as we hear more about the situation. Stay tuned.
